I'm currently teaching 8th grade Spanish. I have taught all levels of Spanish, from kindergarten to high school, at various times in the past 17 years. I have a BA in Spanish and International Relations from Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, IL, and an MA in Spanish Language and Culture from the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain. My shop includes all types of resources for Spanish and French, as well as materials for English Language Arts and ELL.

This skit features a girl asking her new friend about her family members. Como es is repeated several times, each response includes at least 2 descriptive adjectives (there are 12 different adjectives used in the skit) and each line contains a conjugation of the verb ser. The skit is short enough to memorize, yet contains a variety of family and adjectives vocabulary. The skit is copied 2 per page for student handouts and the English translation is included.

Spanish Adjectives 4 x 4 Matching Squares Puzzle - Los Adjetivos - Students assemble a 4 x 4 Spanish/English vocabulary puzzle with 30 common adjectives used to describe people in terms of personality and appearance. Sample words are: trabajador, amable, simpático, leal, extraño, rubio, delgado, and hablador Several words are repeated which makes the puzzle more challenging. Just photocopy enough for a class set (1 for every 2 students if working in pairs, or 1 per student if working alone), cut and fasten with a paper clip. Distribute to students and challenge them to reassemble the puzzles as quickly as possible. There is a list of all words alongside the puzzle in Spanish and English. This can be used as an adjectives bookmark and reference.

Spanish Adjectives & Ser Sentences - 12 Fill in Blank & Translate to English - Students practice ser conjugations with 12 fill in the blank sentences which they must then also translate to English. The sentences contain descriptive adjectives, most of which are cognates. Two sentences deal with ser for origin. A full conjugation of ser is included and there is a work bank to assist students with their translations. There are also 5 clip art images that students are instructed to identify with a Spanish descriptive adjective.

Spanish 50 Classroom Commands and Total Physical Response (TPR) - Get your students moving with this TPR reference that provides 50 affirmative Uds. commands for use in the classroom. Many include one or more nouns that can be used with the verbs to facilitate doing TPR with your students. While most commands are for common actions done in the classroom, this reference also includes a few for the sole purpose of vocabulary building with TPR because they are useful verbs and easy to act out. These are fun activities because many of the English translations of the false cognates are so different than the meanings that students expect. The activities are great for dictionary practice, and work well for substitute teacher lessons. Students work with partners quizzing each other on the descriptive adjectives of people listed on the "Escaleras" handout. One partner starts at the bottom of the list and asks the other to supply the translation. If correct, they continue up the stairs with new words. As soon as an error is made, partners return to the bottom of the stairs and start over. This list makes a great adjectives study guide and reference since it contains the most common descriptive adjectives of people.
